TDS BFD
Customised Conductor Stringing Services
We provide a superior and cost-efficient approach to transmission line stringing.
By harnessing the robust pulling capability of a heavy payload drone, capable of handling up to an 80 kg max payload, we reduce sagging and maintain the integrity of the line, preventing contact with the ground. This enables us to pull power lines without risking major energy disruptions.
DRONE FEATURES
Heavy Payload Drone Performance
TDS BFD excels in performance, capable of flying within an 1km span for conductor stringing applications. It can handle substantial loads, efficiently deploying conductors over long distances. With a robust design and advanced flight capabilities, it ensures stable and precise operations, even in challenging environments, making it invaluable for utility companies and infrastructure projects.
Fly in All Weather Conditions
TDS BFD is designed to excel in adverse weather conditions, capable of flying in rain and high winds. This durability ensures reliable and consistent operation, making it ideal for conductor stringing and other demanding tasks.
Navigate Dangerous Terrain
TDS BFD is designed to navigate challenging environments, including bodies of water, cliffs, and dangerous terrain.
Impressive Vertical Tension Capability
TDS BFD boasts a maximum vertical tension capacity of 50kg and Maximum Take-Off Weight of 150kg, making it ideal for demanding tasks that require lifting and transporting heavy loads.
TDS FLYING FOX
Installing bird diverters on overhead power lines.
We’ve engineered a drone, ‘Flying Fox’ specifically designed to install bird diverters on overhead power lines from a distance, mitigating the risk of human injury and minimising harm to natural wildlife.
DRONE FEATURES
Enhanced Precision
Flying Fox is equipped with four powerful rotors and features an integrated dual camera setup, providing enhanced functionality and precision.
Nothing is Inaccessible
Flying Fox is designed to facilitate the installation of bird diverters across rivers and other otherwise inaccessible areas.
Advanced Obstacle Avoidance
Flying Fox comes equipped with advanced obstacle avoidance technology, significantly reducing the risk of crashing into trees or surrounding infrastructure. This innovative feature ensures safe and efficient operation, even in challenging environments.
Safe and Secure Installation
The firefly and afterglow bird diverters are designed to be easily clipped onto the top of the drone, leveraging its upward thrust to secure the markers in place along the line.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many bird diverters can you install per day?
Currently, we have the capacity to install between 100 to 150 bird diverters per day, depending on flying conditions and operational logistics. Factors such as weather conditions, site accessibility, and project scope may influence daily installation rates.
I’m not 100% sold on the technology, can we do a trial first?
Certainly!
We organise a trial day where we demonstrate approximately 100 units of our technology in your specific environment. This allows you to see firsthand how our technology performs and evaluate its effectiveness. Our team will manage the trial, provide demonstrations, and address any questions or concerns. If satisfied with the results, we can proceed to discuss and finalise a contractual agreement.
Do you have BVLOS capabilities?
Yes, we are approved by CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations. This approval allows us to conduct drone missions where visual contact with the aircraft is not required throughout the flight.
TDS DRONE-IN-A-BOX
Drone-in-a-Box for Energy & Utilities
TDS Drone-in-a-Box (DIAB) delivers autonomous, around-the-clock inspection and monitoring for fixed energy infrastructure. Our remotely deployable drone stations are positioned at substations, along transmission corridors, or at dam sites — launching scheduled or on-demand flights without a pilot on-site.
Designed for the inspection of powerlines, power poles, and substations, our DIAB system reduces inspection costs, improves fault detection, and provides continuous surveillance of critical assets — all equipped with thermal, LIDAR, and photogrammetry payloads.
DIAB CAPABILITIES
Thermal Imaging for Powerlines & Substations
Our drone-in-a-box is equipped with radiometric thermal cameras that detect hotspots across transformers, switchgear, busbars, and conductor joints. Scheduled autonomous thermal flights identify equipment anomalies before they cause outages — enabling predictive maintenance across your entire network without manual intervention.
LIDAR Corridor Surveying
High-density LIDAR scanning maps vegetation encroachment along transmission corridors, measures conductor sag, and builds centimetre-accurate 3D models of poles and towers. The drone-in-a-box conducts recurring LIDAR flights to track changes over time, supporting compliance reporting and engineering design for network upgrades.
Photogrammetry & Asset Condition Reports
Autonomous photogrammetry flights capture high-resolution imagery of power poles, cross-arms, insulators, and substation equipment. AI-assisted defect detection identifies corrosion, cracking, and wear — delivering georeferenced condition reports directly to your asset management system.
CASA-Certified Drone Training
TDS provides CASA-certified Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) training tailored to the energy and utilities sector. We train your team to operate drones safely and legally for in-house inspections, building internal capability to complement the drone-in-a-box system. Our courses cover regulatory compliance, mission planning, and sector-specific applications.
